Urbancase: Natural Furniture and Design Made in Seattle

Based in Seattle, Washington, urbancase is a design studio specializing in product design, restaurant furnishings, and site-specific furniture. The team is led by founder Darin Montgomery and works out of an industrial shipbuilder’s warehouse that now serves as both their studio and their showroom. Their pieces have an affinity for simple and organic elements and are made in the USA. Here are some of our favorites: the Maple Bowls, the Faceted Pillar Candles, the Birch Coat Hook, and the Todd Stool.

The Maple Bowls are a multifunctional trio that can be used to present appetizers, cover a mug, or hold a tea bag or strainer. Made of FSC-certified solid maple, the natural design is finished by hand with a food-safe blend of oil and wax. Sold online in two sizes, the Maple Bowls are priced from $36-48 for a set of three.

A more decorative choice, the Faceted Pillar Candle resembles a hunk of topaz with its warm-hued, 100% beeswax form. The color varies from pale to golden yellow. Long-burning, the candles will last for many a romantic dinner. Find them in three sizes for $12-23.

An everyday design, the Birch Coat Hook is a sturdy piece for the entrance or the bedroom. The wall-mounted decor is made from solid, FSC-certified domestic birch that has been hand-painted at the tip in one’s choice of white, teal, or gray. The practical addition to the home is available for $50 each.

The Todd Stool is a small yet multipurpose seat. Made of solid, FSC-certified domestic walnut and ash and trimmed with leather, the elegant design can function as a foot rest, a tiny table, and a magazine rest as well as a place to sit for a moment. This high-quality item is valued at $450.
