I recall horrific memories of staying up until 4am just to dig my 3D-printed model out of the layers of powder from the fabrication lab’s 3D printer. Perhaps these bitter remembrances can be sweetened by the whimsy of The Sugar Lab’s latest venture: 3D-Printed Sugar Cubes. That’s right; instead of the cough-inducing (and expensive!) powder, sugar becomes the source that is laid in layers and bonded by a mixture of water and alcohol. The results are beautiful structures – architectural, in fact – and open up windows of opportunities for sugar artist’s to explore. Imagine getting one of these “cubes” next to your cup of tea!
