When an appliance gives out or a handy contraption decides to bite the dust, it always compels us to think about the waste it creates. Sigh, there goes another giant contribution in the rubbish pile at the dump. Well, Belgian designer Sep Verboom did something about a bunch of dead fans left to rot in the junk shop of Cebu, Philippines. Thinking green, being creative he naturally turned the fans into lamps. They are a darling collection, utilizing the metal cover as the shade highlighted by a colorful weaved basket inside. It is held on a tripod stand and finished with a bright colored cord. Through a class project Fantasized came to be after a compelling realization about the planet and its desperate need for recycling participation. It turned around to receive second place in the 2012 OVAM Ecodesign Awards, so promoted great awareness, attention, and support toward the devastation following the recent typhoon.
