Acetate Watches by Jakhals

A collection of beautiful watches made with an unconventional material.

Featuring a blend of minimal forms and bold colors in striking patterns, this collection puts the classic understated wristwatch in a new light. The designs aim to bring a bit of magic to every day. Made by Antwerp-based boutique designJakhals, the watches feature a clean, elegant design created by co-founders Jeroen Depuydt and Nicolas Faes. Unlike most watches that feature metal cases, these timepieces boast handmade, cellulose acetate and steel cases. While usually used for sunglasses, acetate takes a new form here and perfectly complements the minimalist dials.

The series features six acetate watches. All of them have a versatile, unisex case size of 39mm in diameter and also come with 18mm-wide straps. The acetate is expertly handcrafted by Mazzucchelli 1849, an Italian, family-run company with a long history in crafting high-end sunglasses. Case colors range from warm amber to fresh mint green or frosted rose, offering something for every preference. The dials have a minimal, clean design with both small markers and slender hands.

The acetate watches also feature 316L stainless steel, a scratch-proof sapphire glass window, durable PVD coating, and a Japanese 1L45 Miyota movement. Available in two colors, the full grain vegetable tanned leather straps boast hand-stitched detailing. Over time, the natural material will develop a beautiful patina. Each watch costs around $280. Jakhals ships every one in sustainable packaging: recycled paper with reinforced, copper wire corners. Conveniently, the brand also offers free worldwide express shipping. Photographs©: Jakhals.
