Photographer Anton Grebentsov creates minimalist images. His work often features simple compositions with perfectly lit objects set against pastel or vibrant backdrops. The Bicycle series maintains that same simplicity, but adds a layer of warmth. Softer light and sepia tones as well as a focus on details which reveal craftsmanship give the images another visual and conceptual dimension. More than just a technical overview or clinical product shots, the photographs reveal the story of the bike. Designed, assembled, finished, and then used. Again and again. A photo shows various tool marks and everyday wear, while another displays the contrast between a sleek, polished surface and dark, textured metal.
Dramatic lighting creates a harmonious play of shadows and light, bringing the bike to life. Seen as a work of craftsmanship and as a work of art, the ubiquitous bicycle transforms into a beautiful object. We’d even venture to say that the photo series shows, at least in a way, what the world looks like through the eyes of cycling aficionados and automotive fans. Photographs© Anton Grebentsov.
