Bookniture: Multipurpose Furniture You Can Store on a Shelf

Bookniture is an innovation in space-saving furniture by Mike Mak, a designer based in Hong Kong. Small and portable, the accordion-shaped piece can be folded down into a notebook. In its compact form, the design can be carried in a bag or tucked away on a bookshelf, making this one of the most portable and organizable designs out there. When expanded, the Bookniture can serve as a table, desk, riser, or stool, among other options; stacking the design makes the possibilities of this multipurpose furniture nearly endless.

Crafted in a bookbindery, the design is held between two leather covers with hidden Neodymium Magnet closure. Instead of pages, Bookniture reveals a honeycomb structure of kraft paper, a strong material which supports more than 100 times its weight (approximately 350 lb. for this 3.5-lb. design). Additionally, the paper is recyclable, making this small space solution a sustainable choice.

Bookniture is available for pre-order in black and brown and comes with a laser-engraved felt top cushion in light or dark gray. Find the design on Kickstarter until March 18, 2015.
