The Coleen E-Bike

Inspired by a vintage icon, made with high-tech features.

In 1941, French architect Jean Prouvé decided to create a commuter bicycle that would make local workers’ lives easier. He designed a distinctive X-shaped frame made of sheet metal, a more accessible alternative compared to the standard tubular steel. Paired with a cruiser seat, the bike provided a comfortable and practical mode of transportation. Years later, it became an iconic design, with original models selling for up to $100,000 at auction. Inspired by the emblematic bicycle, the new Coleen luxury electric bicycle upgrades the elegant silhouette and adds a range of high-tech details for contemporary urban commuters.

The frame is made of both lightweight carbon and aircraft-grade aluminum, which lowers the bike’s weight to only four pounds. Full grain leather on the saddle and handles with hand-finished detailing adds a vintage touch to the design. Coleen comes with a 250W motor and a 529Wh battery, while the Speed One model features a 500W motor. The e-bike provides a range of up to 62 miles on a single charge. For more efficiency, the battery charges from 0 to 80% in around 90 minutes, and to full capacity in just over two hours.

A no-glare display offers access to info about speed, distance traveled, battery charge, and more. A keyless design allows the user to start the e-bike by pressing a button on a smartphone app. Other features include a belt instead of a messy chain and the option to add a gearbox. Introduced at CES 2019 in Las Vegas, the Coleen e-bike is currently available to pre-order through the company’s website. Available colors range from Light Blue to Gray and White. The first two options boast a white stripe, while the white bike features a navy stripe. Prices for this luxury electric bicycle start at about $5,300 and go up to $8,500, depending on the model.
