Salmela Architect

Born in Minnesota in a family of Finnish farmers, David Salmela is a self-trained architect and founder of the Salmela Architect practice. He has lived in the state all of his life and currently resides in Duluth, working from his home office that overlooks the striking landscape of Lake Superior. His celebrated work is strongly influenced by the regional context and the studio’s goal is to create buildings and homes with a deep architectural understanding of the place and the local culture they belong to. Davide Salmela has received multiple awards including the AIA Minnesota Gold Medal, fourteen Minnesota AIA Honor Awards and the National AIA Honor Award for Architecture.
