Studio Tolvanen is a product design firm founded by Mika and Julie Tolvanen in 2015. The two founders have different backgrounds. While Finnish designer Mika studied at the Royal College of Art and founded his own practice after his graduation, Julie is an American designer with 10 years of woodworking experience and a master’s degree in furniture design. Together, they create furniture and accessories for residential and commercial spaces in their workshop on the Lauttasaari island in Helsinki. The designers believe that design starts from function but also aim to create products with a distinctive character. The two designers have received many awards, including the Good Design Award, the Finnish Furniture Designer of the Year 2017, and the Bruno Mathsson Prize.
