Patchwork Architecture

Wellington, New Zealand

Patchwork Architecture is led by Ben Mitchell-Anyon and Sally Ogle. The practice took shape in 2011 when the pair moved to Whanganui and hand-built their first project, the DogBox house. A year later they opened a Wellington studio and began taking on work that ranges from compact infill homes to multi-residential, commercial, and civic buildings.

Their process is rooted in making. Early site walks, working drawings, and full-scale mock-ups are common starting points; the goal is to resolve structure, budget, and comfort in ways that suit each client and location. Projects often occupy tight urban lots or steep terrain, so the team looks for simple construction moves—stacked volumes, clear spans, economical details—that can handle demanding sites without losing character. Patchwork’s office sits in Island Bay. A small team of architects and graduates share the work, carrying projects from first sketch to finished building across New Zealand.
