Milan Design Week, held from 17 to 23 April, witnessed the collaboration between ECAL/University of Art and Design Lausanne and Swiss lighting brand Schätti, as they unveiled a collection of five playful and innovative portable lamps. Crafted by ECAL’s Master students in Product Design, the lamp collection is the product of their collaboration with their mentors: Camille Blin, the program’s head, Jörg Boner, a renowned designer, and Thomas Schätti, co-owner of Schätti.
These lamps not only highlight the capabilities of LED technology but also demonstrate the students’ creative prowess. Schätti, a brand recognized for its high-quality manufacturing and expertise in the lighting industry, embraces a modernist approach and innovative outlook.As the lighting industry undergoes a massive transformation, LED technology takes center stage with significant research and development effort being devoted to it. With a focus on redefining light, ECAL students were challenged to create portable, battery-powered LED lamps that are both functional and aesthetically pleasing.
The resulting collection is a testament to the collaboration’s success, offering multifunctional lamps that cater to a variety of needs. The lamps are collapsible or foldable, making them adaptable to various spaces and situations. The versatile lamps can serve as both wall and desk lighting solutions, making them an ideal choice for both indoor and outdoor settings. Additionally, they are portable and rechargeable, providing users with convenience and flexibility.
