House on Hoopers Island by David Jameson Architect

View all 19 Photos

This stunning vacation home designed by David Jameson Architect  was built on the Hoopers Island after hurricane Isabel swept across the premises, the local planning and zoning department established a regulation for all new residences to be built three feet above the base blood elevation, the house was built to meet the height requirement by using plinths made of concrete masonry. Inspired by the local vernacular barns and fishing shacks that survived the hurricane, the residence uses various degrees of frequency and intensity depending on the weather and the number of guests. Composed of several separate cabins that be either locked down when necessary or conditioned and inhabited as needed. These cabins are linked together by their exterior metal cladding and the sloping roofs. A screened porch connects the three main cabins while providing a breezy place to relax by the water. An above ground swimming pool and a platform for sunbathing is accessible through a wooden deck extended from the main lodge in the direction of the river.
