Instrmnt’s R-Series Umbrella

The ultimate umbrella for minimalist design lovers.

Glasgow-based multidisciplinary design studio Instrmnt focuses on designing accessible, industrial-led products that blend simplicity and quality. While it built a solid international reputation as an independent wristwatch brand, the studio uses this creative approach in different projects, whether it’s an elegant clock, a day bed, or a cool city bike. Now, Instrmnt has revealed a minimalist umbrella design that joins a growing collection of accessories and lifestyle products. The R-Series Umbrella complements its gorgeous good looks with an exquisite build. Simple and stylish, the full-length, minimalist umbrella boasts a Japanese fabric canopy and a hand-stitched leather grip.

Lightweight and comfortable to hold, the R-Series Umbrella comes with machined aluminum components. The bent aluminum handle is hollow to reduce the product’s weight and to also give a subtle nod to Instrmnt’s city bike. Likewise, the two launch styles of the minimalist umbrella design feature color combinations that reference the studio’s 01-Series of watches. The umbrella comes in two versions. One has a sandblasted gunmetal finish with a gray canopy and a tan leather handle, while the other boasts a sandblasted silver finish, black fabric, and a matching black leather handle.

To make the R-Series, Instrmnt sources materials from Japan and Europe before assembling the umbrellas in Glasgow. The R-Series Umbrella makes its debut on April 26, 2019. Both versions are available exclusively from Instrmnt’s web store and at select physical retailers. Photographs© Susan Castillo.
