The Jack Lamp Family

A creative series that merges art and design.

Portuguese designer and artist André Teoman makes bold and eye-catching products and artworks that tell a story. His work often features whimsy and surreal details as well as vibrant colors and playful designs. The Jack Lamp Family series follows the same pattern, but adds plenty of humor to the mix. It’s a conceptual series that blurs the line between sculptural artwork and functional design. The collection also provides a new take on lighting. More importantly, it explores the world of modern electronic devices and the cable management nightmares they often bring.

“In a time where we need electric cables for everything and get tangled with them, Jack stages the problem of cable chaos in a humorous way, instead of hiding it. This lamp family can be rearranged and even composed as you wish since the object and the cable interact in all different sorts of ways depending on how you compose the mesh,” explains the designer.

Jack, the central character, takes the shape of a teddy bear, referencing childhood memories. Crafted from fabric, paper or marble, Jack explores the features and tactile qualities of different materials. Using the Bouquet of Diamonds lamps alongside the bear, André Teoman creates humorous scenes. Ultimately, the Jack Lamp Family brings together art and lighting design to highlight the absurd of the everyday through playful compositions. Photographs© André Teoman.
