Designed by Jonas Edvard, Konkret at first appears to be a misnomer. The lamp, crafted from ash wood veneer, has very little material relation to the coldness and gray of concrete. Rather, when illuminated, the lamp reveals a gradient from a warm glow to complete black, a transition full of depth and dimension. Even when turned off, the darkening of the wood’s inherent color into the midnight stain draws out detail. However, when the word “concrete” is interpreted as a state of being – tangible, real, and raw – the meaning is clear; the free-flowing and natural patterns of the wood are visibly highlighted, and bring the lamp to life and existence.
