Lastra by Sovrappensiero Design Studio

Exploring the lightness and gracefulness of solid marble.

Designed Milan-based Sovrappensiero Design Studio for Marmi Sacco, the Lastra series uses a material with a rich history in a contemporary context. The collection’s name Lastra means “slab” in Italian. Here, it refers to the shape of the main elements of the sculptural designs. For the chair, the studio used two rose pink slabs of marble to create the seat and backrest, with a white marble volume supporting the two. Both the backrest and the seat have a slightly curved shape to enhance the feeling of comfort. Natural textures and lines appear across the surface of the white and pink marble. As a result, each Lastra product is one-of-a-kind.

In a similar way to the chair, the Lastra table features a curved top. The flowing lines of the top give soft as well as light feel to the solid material. The curved elements of the series also showcase the manufacturing company’s expertise and marble crafting skills. Underneath the top, the white marble base boasts a semi-circle cut-out section that enhances the lightness of the design further. The elegant table and chair work well on their own or together, as a set. Naturally, they also double as sculptural objects in any living space. Photographs© Elena Monzo.
