The Layer x Xgimi Mira Projector

An innovative, three-in-one projector that takes inspiration from the language of interior design.

Proving that high-tech products can also look stylish and become a part of a room’s décor, the Mira projector has a minimalist design that seamlessly blends into a home’s interior design scheme. London-based design agency Layer Design has created Mira for leading projector brand Xgimi. Apart from its good looks, the projector aims to revolutionize home entertainment systems with an innovative three-in-one design. The collaboration follows on the footsteps of Layer’s previous tech-focused projects. Among them, the Beosound Balance speaker for Danish audio brand Bang & Olufsen and the Ampi charging unit for Vitra.

“At Layer, we have developed a new approach to home technology, using tactile materials, a soft palette, and gentle forms that make it more welcoming and less obtrusive in the interior. We recently applied this thinking to a new short-throw projector for Chinese tech leader Xgimi. The discreet form, subtle materiality, and intuitive UX of MIRA belies the projector’s incredible technical performance, making powerful technology more enjoyable and accessible,” says Benjamin Hubert – Founder, Layer Design.

High-tech features meet refined design and tactile surfaces.

The three-in-one projector combines projection and audio with smart TV capabilities. Mira produces a high-quality 100-inch display on virtually any surface and in any lighting conditions. Thus, it offers a convenient, more accessible alternative to televisions with similar screens, at a fraction of the cost and with less energy use. Made from special nano-materials, the upgraded Xgimi projector screen has an ultra-matte surface that minimizes both reflections and glare. Additionally, users can project artworks on the screen or on any surface. Thanks to built-in proximity sensors, Mira adjusts the perspective according to the user’s location and point of view, bringing artworks to life.

Apart from quality video, this short-throw projector also offer exceptional sound quality. The company collaborated with leading audio brand Harman Kardon to develop a 2.1-channel speaker for Mira, which also features a supersized subwoofer. Emitting sound to the left and right of a room, the projector easily produces a 3D sound effect. As for performance, Mira shines with a dark field brightness of 66.7fL as well as its DualLight technology and Eagle-Eye optics. Finally, the new XIMIMATE software controls an intuitive UX.

Elegant and minimalist, Mira features graceful curves and rounded forms wrapped in tactile fabric. A neutral color palette aims to not only contrast the traditional look of high-tech products, but also complement modern interiors. Metallic accents complete the refined design. Xgimi has launched Mira in September, during the 2023 edition of the IFA Berlin trade fair in Germany. Images courtesy of Layer Design.
