Lebird Bookends

Bookends inspired by nature.

French designer Pierre Baryga of byPAN! created lebird as a sketch during a train trip with his daughter. Some time later, while storing oak logs on his family farm, the idea of translating the simple lines of the bird drawing onto wood took shape. He started working in his workshop, slowly bringing the bird to life. The minimalist design didn’t require more than a few prototypes, which ensured that the designer could keep the purity of the initial drawing intact. Pierre Baryga then started searching for the right craftspeople to make his creation a reality. One year later, he partnered with a family-owned carpentry workshop in the Jura region, in eastern France.

The lebird series brings playfulness to the classic bookends. Simple and charming, the wooden bookend design features clean lines and a minimalist aesthetic. Keeping in line with the designer’s love of nature, ecology, and sustainability, each lebird is skillfully crafted by by hand by artisans who use only FSC-certified wood sourced from sustainably managed, local forests. Some of the waste from the manufacturing process also becomes fuel that heats up offices and workshops. The lebird bookends come in recycled paper packaging printed with vegetable inks. Signed and numbered, every bird also display a “Made in France” label. The series includes a natural beech wood bookend as well as a black beech wood version that boasts a satin lacquered finish.
