Linn Sondek LP12-50 50th Anniversary Edition

A special, limited-edition incarnation of an iconic turntable.

In 1973, Ivor Tiefenbrun founded Linn to create high-end audio systems with a mix of precision-engineering, inspired experimentation, and minimalist design. The first product of the Glasgow-based company was the revolutionary Sondek LP12 turntable. The modular, upgradeable design soon became an icon. To celebrate the brand’s 50th anniversary, Linn has partnered with creative collective LoveFrom. The limited-edition Sondek LP12-50 celebrates the original but also brings some aesthetic and technical alterations to the design.

“Last year, I was approached by Sir Jony Ive. He shared his own enduring admiration for Linn – our designs, our ethos and our relentless pursuit of musical perfection. I was pleased to be able to reciprocate his admiration, and to discuss our shared values of beauty in design, peerless performance, user experience, and attention to detail. Our upcoming fiftieth anniversary year presented the perfect opportunity to create something extraordinary, together – and where better to start than with the product that started it all, Sondek LP12?,“ says Gilad Tiefenbrun, Linn CEO.

“This project has been so life-affirming and so joyful to work on… LoveFrom has worked together with brilliant, kind people at Linn who share our obsessiveness to make something wonderful and without compromise. And at the same time, we have been able to play a small part in celebrating fifty years of an icon,” adds Sir Jony Ive, LoveFrom.

The Sondek LP12-50 turntable produces exceptional audio and offers unparalleled vinyl playback performance thanks to Linn’s innovative Bedrok™ plinth technology. Made with ultra-dense layers of beech wood, the base offers superior insulation and a sonic upgrade. Additionally, the exclusive turntable comes with a precision-machined power and speed control button, recessed into the top. Likewise, the precision-crafted hinges give a refined finishing touch to the case. All aesthetic changes preserve the character and iconic look of the 1973 turntable. Linn will produce only 250 limited-edition Sondek LP12-50s, in Natural and White colorways. Each turntables will feature an embossed aluminum plaque with individual numbering. Made in the UK, the exclusive Sondek LP12-50 turntable will cost £50,000, or around $64,000. Photography © Linn, LoveFrom.
