Located just a short boat ride away from the bustling center of Helsinki, Lonna Sauna offers a perfect opportunity to take a break from city living and relax in a natural landscape. This distinctive sauna was designed by OOPEAA architecture studio. It pays homage to Finnish sauna culture while also providing a contemporary and elegant take on traditional wooden structures. The building features an eye-catching zinc roof which gleams in the sunlight. Handcrafted wooden logs with an untreated finish give the design a familiar look and feel. Inside, wood-burning stoves reference tradition, while sculptural elements bring a modern vibe to the space and firmly place it in a contemporary context. Larch surfaces also enhance the warm, rustic ambience.

Large windows provide gorgeous views. On one side, visitors can admire the cityscape. On the other, they can relax while watching the sea. A terrace acts as a link between the interior and the natural landscape. Apart from its beautiful design, the sauna also offers access to a previously restricted island. Used in the past as a military base and featuring historical exposed brick architecture buildings which date back to the 19th century, Lonna island is truly a must-visit place. Lonna Sauna officially opens to the public this summer.
