Re-lighting Gino Sarfatti Edition N° 1 By FLOS

Re-lighting Gino Sarfatti is quite the undertaking by FLOS, as would be any other project that modernizes a famed classic. In preserving the vision of Gino Sarfatti, possibly the most brilliant Italian lighting designer, FLOS reworked his iconic designs to reflect today’s lighting technology and standards – just as Sarfatti himself had promoted the invention of the halogen lamp and other period lighting devices through new typologies. Even in the technical specifications, FLOS pays homage to the original design, highlighting upgrades from the originals to the contemporaries. Sarfatti’s vertical fluorescent tube lamp (Modello 1063) now sports LEDs and a diffuser, though the visual effect remains stunning and sleek, and the table lamp (Modello 548) employing a reflected, diffuse light gets a sunny splash of color and a dimmer switch. Juxtaposition of Sarfatti’s work and its derivative is testament to both the need to address developing technologies in the field of lighting, which FLOS seamlessly achieves, and also the timelessness of indisputable, good design.
