Shrink Wrap Stills by Chris Labrooy

Even in spite of the most recent technological advances in rendering and CGI, there is still a line that divides the digitally doctored from the graphical representation that crosses into the realm of art. Artist Chris Labrooy exploits the computer and mouse to create convincing renderings of projects that extend the reach of a realistic budget. Shrink Wrap Stills, his latest venture, humorously juxtaposes glossy, “shrink wrapped” spheres with impossibly fun situations. In one image, an explosion of white, yellow, pink, and teal orbs take over the scene as they burst from the bowl of a toilet. In another, the spheres in various shades of pink form the bag of a domestic vacuum cleaner. The rendering of light and surface is stunningly realistic, making Labrooy’s work a pleasure for the eyes and an exercise for any good sense of humor.
