The Elephant in the Room: Animal-Inspired Lighting by LZF Lamps

View all 6 Photos

his elephant-shaped floor lamp was designed by Isidro Ferrer and handcrafted in Spain by the Valencia-based boutique LFZ Lamps and the artisan Manolo Martin. A gentle giant, the lighting design stands on two wooden legs and is likely as tall or taller than the user. The body is woven from and layered with wood veneer so that it resembles a stack of baskets and gives off warm, atmospheric light. The decorative trunk, ears, eyes, and top of the head are crafted from a lighter variety of wood with a natural grain to it. Together, the components make up a unique character and a conversation starter. People will wonder about this piece: did it come from the savannah or escape from the circus?
