Lotto’s Canti, A Minimalist Cantilever Chair

View all 8 Photos

Minimalist style and the striking character of solid walnut wood come together in the design of this cantilever chair.

When furniture design merges with the soul of artistic expression, magic happens. Like Canti, a minimalist cantilever chair created by Lotto, a Milan and Berlin-based industrial design, interior design, furniture design, and spatial design studio. Inspired by the industrial form of wood, which is usually cut into planks for more efficient production and transportation, the studio designed Canti with a cantilevered silhouette and simple, geometric elements that come together in a sculptural creation. Made with planks of American walnut wood, the chair features exceptionally clean lines and only essential elements. Both the backrest and seat have a plank-shaped form, with two triangular legs providing optimal support.

To enhance comfort, the studio subtly carved both the seat and backrest with an ergonomic shape. Currently only a prototype, the Lotto Canti cantilever chair has a solid walnut build that highlights the beauty of the material while enhancing the design’s individuality. The dark brown colors of the natural material and its distinctive patterns and textures infuse the minimalist design with warmth. Compact and easy to bring into any space, Canti provides a comfortable seating solution for residential or public spaces. At the same time, it serves as a striking decorative object that looks like an artwork carefully carved from wood. Photography by Louis De Belle and Stefania Zanetti.
