This house is a refurbished Victorian in London, England, designed by Simon Astridge which flourishes thanks to the juxtaposition of the old and the new. These contrasting features come together at the home’s central plywood staircase. The concept for the home was to limit the palate of materials to concrete, plywood, brick, natural stone, and sky. This last “material” features largely within the project through the use of frameless glazing on the upper floors. The most notable of these is located just above the staircase and is at its most compelling just after the rain when the light shines down through the puddles of water on the glass to reflect in interesting shapes on the walls around it.
