Architect Leo Qvarsebo of Equator Stockholm designed this summer home in Dalarna, Sweden, for himself and his children. Made almost entirely of wood, the retreat has a timber frame and is clad in pine panels. The simple construction is varied more in shape than in material. A triangle punctuated by dormer windows, the compact house is contemporary in form and, perhaps more importantly, can be scaled as a kid-friendly climbing wall. There’s even a rope tied to the roof and a built-in swing set on the porch, so the outdoor area is clearly meant for play.

Inside, the small space is lined with birch plywood and filled with light. Sun comes in through the sliding glass doors and large windows, illuminating the open plan kitchen, dining room, and den on the first floor, plus the upper level storage and bedrooms. The warm atmosphere makes for a cozy getaway with beautiful views of the surrounding meadows and woods.
