Tyler’s Mistake From Redemption Whiskey

Based in the US, Redemption Whiskey is a subsidiary brand of Deutsch Family Wine & Spirits. The company’s name references the revival of the humble rye, reminding of its status before the prohibition era. A time when rye was the most popular type of whiskey. Redemption Whiskey uses a high rye content for all its recipes, including their signature Redemption Rye, which results in a spicy and flavorful taste profile. The company’s whiskey comes from an old distillery in Indiana which dates back to the 1840s. At Bardstown Barrel Selections in Kentucky, the whiskey is barreled and left to age in new charred oak barrels.

While the company closely monitors every step of the production process, sometimes accidents happen. And sometimes, they have amazing results. Tyler’s Mistake Whiskey has a tongue-in-cheek name. Referring to the production misstep that has lead to the use of both rye and bourbon barrels, the whiskey has a distinctive taste that makes it stand out among classic spirits. After leaving it to age for a few years, the company launched Tyler’s Mistake in a limited edition run. The light amber 94 proof whiskey has a smooth taste, blending a 9-year old bourbon with 2 and 3-year old rye.

Notes include black pepper and spice as well as oak and vanilla as underlying flavors. After the initial rye notes, the whiskey also combines cherry and oak flavors with a sweet finish. Like all of the other offerings from the brand, Redemption Tyler’s Mistake features hand-numbered bottles for that extra artisan touch.
