This beautiful and modern wood and glass house reinterprets the traditional Lithuanian farmstead in a creative and sophisticated way. The award-winning Valley Villa was designed by the Arches studio. Located in a gorgeous valley near the outskirts of Vilnius, the house occupies a serene plot of land surrounded by tall trees, but it is also conveniently close to the busy, bustling center of the capital.

To bring the clients’ ideal dwelling to life, the architects took inspiration from tradition, geometry and nature. Preserving the slope of the land, the team created a contemporary structure that looks completely at home in the valley. The house features vernacular elements seen through a modern lens. Clean and minimal volumes, wooden blinds, a double pitched roof, as well as granite details. As a graphical reimagining of the surrounding tree trunks, it boasts geometric shapes created by pairing eco-friendly Kebony wood panels, stainless steel profiles and black shale finishes, with a striking result.

Different sections and levels make up the sprawling living spaces. The slope hides a part of the ground floor, while the cantilevered section opens up the interior to the valley. Terraces provide a quiet and private space for relaxation, with an expansive garden also encouraging nature contemplation and meditation. Granite stepping stones create a path to the entrance, minimizing the impact on the land while helping to integrate the structure into nature. Glazed walls and large windows fill the interior with natural light, providing stunning views of the surrounding greenery. Photography by Norbert Tukaj.
