Whitehall Black House by Jolson Architecture

Renovated by architecture firm Jolson, the Whitehall Black House can be found in the Mornington Peninsula of Australia. The contemporary ranch recycles materials from the original farmhouse, such as the doors and flooring. The design is now split into long wings and courtyards for peak sunlight and airflow. Clad in corrugated iron, the black shed-like structures boldly define themselves in contrast with the surrounding plains. Each volume is outlined and shaded by a wooden truss, and the most magnificent of the design also features a brick fireplace. Inside, two bluestone walls and rustic decoration break up the otherwise white interiors, giving the space a strong sense of warmth and location.
