Created by Mexico City-based industrial designer José Bermúdez, founder of Studio Bermúdez, H01 is a custom wood modular shelving system. The client commissioned the firm to design a bespoke bookshelf unit for an old Mexican house in the Coyoacán neighborhood. As the dwelling boasts irregular flooring, the shelving system needed to have adjustable supports and flexible elements. H01 combines tzalam wood with coated steel in a minimalist design. While the solid timber frame boasts darker colors and organic textures, the steel shelves feature a matte, light gray surface.
The bespoke system features 3.4mm steel shelves that allow the client to display his large collection of architecture, art, and design books which contains over 150 tiles. Likewise, the solid steel legs offer excellent support to the entire unit. The sturdy legs also feature adjustable levelers that allowed the studio to install the wood modular shelving unit on a floor with an irregular surface. Originally designed for this specific house, H01 is now part of the studio’s permanent collection. The design is conveniently modular and can either grow or expand depending to each customer’s needs. Furthermore, the studio offers a range of wood types and finishes for this design, available upon request. Photography© Alejandro Ramoroz.
