Located in Remsenburg, a rural town neighboring Westhampton, New York, the Barn House was renovated by D’Apostrophe Design. The structure was originally built in the 1980s as a faux barn but now serves as weekend home for Le Pain Quotidien CEO Vincent Herbert and his family. The design resembles a barn even more than before, as the wood cladding was salvaged from a 200-year-old outbuilding. Gray with age, the exterior has a weathered yet clean look that’s both rustic and romantic. The manicured landscaping makes sure that everyone knows this isn’t a regular farmhouse, it’s a luxury getaway. The tall, dramatic windows let light spill into the white interior, where one finds exposed wooden beams, a minimalist black and white fireplace, a striking staircase, and a long hardwood dinner table with built-in bench seating. An ascetic counterpart to the lush surrounding gardens, the interior provides the Herberts with a altogether serene retreat.
