Bulb Fiction is an exaggerated sum of its parts, and is combined in such a manner that magically fuses together into an even greater statement. KiBiSi pays homage to Edison’s incandescent light bulb as the inspiration for the piece, an overdone representation in the form of a pendant lamp. Just as how its movie analog Pulp Fiction was a modern mash-up of film noir, so too does Bulb Fiction recast traditional elements to deliver a fresh take on old genre. Although the form of the light represents the classic curve of the incandescent, underneath the hand-blown, opal glass shade hide an energy-friendly bulb and covered socket for a modern twist. The white cord of the light is several times thicker than necessary, but this bold statement injects the piece with character and substance, allowing several heads of light to be bound together with each light’s own life source. Installation is easy and no-fuss; the five components of the light screw together with the same ease with which Vincent Vega dances the twist at Jack Rabbit Slim’s.
