Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Founded in Rio de Janeiro in 2018 by architects Thiago de Almeida and Priscila Bellas, AGENCIA TPBA explores how strict formal control can coexist with loose, inhabitable openness. Each project is an exercise in calibrated ambiguity: clear lines anchor the eye while generous voids leave room for life to unfold on its own terms. The practice’s first years have been marked by strong competition showings—second prize for Brazil’s pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka, runner-up in the Charitas waterfront renewal in Niterói, and a finalist spot for Sydney’s new Powerhouse Museum—as well as invitations to cultural programmes such as the “Incertos Contextos” residency at Garagem Sul / CCB Lisbon and the 2024 Lugano Architecture Biennale.
Both partners earned dual degrees at FAU-UFRJ and ENSA-Versailles and later contributed to projects at NP2F in Paris and OMA in Rotterdam, including the Lafayette Anticipations foundation. Their academic work continues—Thiago at FAU-USP and Priscila at PROURB-UFRJ—feeding research on form, public realm, and the unplanned rhythms of daily use back into the studio’s designs.
