The “Empty Chair” was originally designed for Amnesty International to honor Chinese Nobel prize winner Liu Xiaobo, to support their campaign against the increased suppression of writers, journalists, artists and activists. The empty chair is a seat whose ladder shaped back rest towers about five meters tall, metaphorically reaching for the sky, and to freedom of thought and speech. Maarten Baas redesigned this concept into a miniature 3D print to further complement the campaign.
