The Executive Furniture Collection

Using recycled, reclaimed, and unwanted parts from second-hand furniture, designer Jenny Nordberg has created a beautiful collection that challenges the idea of redundancy.

Building a more sustainable future starts with a genuine desire to change the status quo. Created by Swedish designer Jenny Nordberg for second-hand office furniture brand Soeco, the Executive furniture collection shows how even an already eco-friendly industry can be greatly improved by thinking outside the box. Using recycled, unwanted and unsellable parts from the company’s warehouse as a raw material, Jenny Nordberg designed an innovative furniture series that pushes the limits of second-hand furniture to provide a blueprint for a greener future.

Launched at the Stockholm Furniture Fair, the series embodies the best of Swedish design while displaying Nordberg’s brutalist minimalist style, experimental approach to design, and sustainability-focused ideas. The Executive collection of office furniture cleverly explores the concept of reuse. To create it, the designer specifically chose unsellable, unwanted elements, avoiding alterations, and then intentionally moved away from the most obvious furniture design solutions. As a result, the collection shifts the perception on waste material, recyclability, and the potential of second-hand products.

Giving new life to unsellable parts that would have become waste.

The ingenuity of Jenny Nordberg’s designs becomes clear merely looking at the pieces from the collection, but even more so when understanding their origin. For example, oddly shaped tabletops have transformed into a modern, asymmetrical coffee table; damaged pieces from old desks combine with whiteboard pen holders in an angular table lamp and a linear hanging light; and sound absorbing panels have transformed into cozy sofas that boast untreated leather upholstery.

The Executive range also includes shelving made from cabinets and a conference table assembled from several tabletops, with sanding marks and a lacquer finish adding a decorative accent to the design. Apart from furniture and lighting, Jenny Nordberg also designed vases, a tray and a wall-mounted piece. While originally produced for the office of Soeco‘s CEO, Mattias Andersson, some designs from the Executive Furniture collection will be available to purchase on a made-to-order basis.
