Fondue Slippers by Satsuki Ohata

View all 9 Photos

Satsuki Ohata’s Fondue Slippers are made by dipping one’s feet in colorful PVC and give the wearer the ultimate “wet paint look.” The plastic forms a cast around the foot and can be hardened with a hairdryer. Available in many bright colors, the shoes can be written on and personalized with other craft techniques. In their basic form, the shoes are suitable for indoor or outdoor use and can be washed by hand.

Reportedly, the shoes can withstand running, but, especially given the recent Vibram FiveFingers lawsuit, we wouldn’t recommend them for more than casual wear. Additionally, there are questions about the comfort and breathability of the thin plastic kicks. Nonetheless, we recommend that adventurous DIY and Blue Man Group fans give the Fondue Slippers a try.
