A minimal cluster house in a beautiful landscape.

When it doesn’t design creative lamps, minimalist tea kettles, or elegant bath accessories, Danish studio Norm Architects creates stunning dwellings that showcase the best of Scandinavian design. Located north of Oslo, Gjøvik House occupies a small plot of land in a hilly landscape, facing the Mjøsa lake and the surrounding Norwegian woods. The cluster house feature six interconnects blocks. Minimalist and modern, the structure has vertical board wooden cladding which will develop a silvery patina over time. This will help to further integrate the already subtle structure into nature. Inside, open areas alternate with cozy nooks in the broken plan design. The blocks have different purposes as well as slightly different materials and finishes. For example, the dining room boasts matte flooring, while the kitchen features a polished floor.

Throughout the home, neutral tones and natural materials abound, combining the warmth of wood with the cool feel of the gray surfaces. In true hygge fashion, the comfortable living spaces allow the inhabitants to feel protected from the cold of the outdoors while also creating a direct link to the woodland through large windows. The heart of the home, the kitchen boasts wooden furniture and windows that flood the space with natural light. Other more private areas of the broken plan design, such as the bedroom and the bathroom, feature smaller openings. Apart from helping to create a sheltered space, this design decision also enhances the feeling of comfort. Neutral colors and minimalist furniture along with natural fabrics give the interior a distinctive Nordic character. Photographs© Norm Architects.
