Instrmnt Applied Design’s Lounge Chair

A mid-century modern-inspired lounge chair that is as comfortable and practical as it is stylish.

Following on the footsteps of their critically acclaimed Day Bed, Glasgow-based multidisciplinary studio Instrmnt Applied Design (I—AD) – formerly Instrmnt – has launched a new furniture design that blends style and function. The Lounge Chair boasts mid-century modern cues to look gorgeous in any space. It features a walnut or oak frame with a low profile and slightly tapered legs. Upholstered with quality fabrics, the angled seat and backrest have a wide design to enhance comfort further. However, this elegant lounge chair also puts a focus on function. It features a removable plinth on the left side; attached to a stainless steel arm, the beveled wood surface provides plenty of space for a coffee cup or a book.

To complement the wooden frame, the studio used sandblasted stainless steel for the arms and the upholstery frame. Pirelli rubber webbing keeps each cushion firmly in place. Handcrafted in a limited edition, The Lounge Chair is made in a collaboration with Glasgow-based furniture maker Lewis Macleod of Hame. The chairs boast bespoke carpentry and each one comes to life through the expertise of four craftspeople.

Made to order, The Lounge Chair has a delivery time of 8 to 10 weeks. Customers can select between American Walnut or Scottish Oak for the frame; they can also choose the upholstery from Forest Green Italian bouclé, Gray Melton wool, or Tan calf leather. The Lounge Chair retails for £1395, or around $1,800. Previously known primarily for their watch designs, I—AD has also launched a minimalist umbrella, the one-off Day Bed, and a city bike created in a collaboration with bike builders Freddie Grubb.
