La Granja Ibiza

View all 21 Photos

Although it is mainly known for its party hub reputation, Ibiza has numerous gems hidden among its pastoral islands where pine forests, citrus and fig trees, lush vegetation, golden fields, and imposing mountains are surrounded by deep blue water. One of these treasures is La Granja Ibiza, a member-only retreat located in a centuries-old stone farmhouse that blends vernacular architecture elements and Moorish accents. It is surrounded by secluded farmland spreading across 10 hectares, providing a peaceful getaway in a rural landscape.

The retreat was opened in a collaboration between Friends of a Farmer, a creative community which values art, sustainability and mindfulness, and Design Hotels, a company which provides access to an impressive resource of curated boutique hotels and design-oriented retreats all across the world. The interior was completed by Dreimeta Design Studio and pays homage to the heritage of the farmhouse and to the passage of time while also accentuating the relationship with the land via traditional furniture and rustic simplicity, with an emphasis put on distressed finishes, natural materials and a palette of muted colors and beige tones. Dark wood beams, arched walls and hammered iron fixtures are joined by simple wooden furniture and natural stone. “The art of imperfect beauty is accepting the natural cycle of growth and decay. Using flawed and scarred materials and surfaces we’ve alluded to the enigma of time passing,” explains Armin Fischer of Dreimeta Design Studio. Apart from the rustic accommodation, guests can enjoy delicious slow-food prepared using vegetables and fruits grown on the farm and artisanal products made locally in small batches. At the large outdoor table, the Mediterranean lifestyle is celebrated with feasts that encourage a community spirit via a social yet laid-back dining experience. Friends of a Farmer also organizes collective rituals that include yoga and meditation, slow-food workshops, and music sets to “connect like-minded people, inspire change, and promote mindfulness.” Guests can stay in one of the nine rooms in the farmhouse or in the freestanding guesthouse which has a private garden; the common areas include a tranquil pool and peaceful outdoor space. If you want to find out more about La Granja Ibiza or if you’re thinking about becoming a member to enjoy a retreat experience like no other, check out the retreat’s website for more info.
