Shakespeare and Company

View all 1 Photos

More than just a bookstore, Shakespeare and Company is a veritable literary institution and iconic landmark with a rich history. Named after the beloved Shakespeare and Company bookshop which opened its doors in 1919 and closed permanently in 1941, this bookstore has cemented its own reputation with a fantastic collection of second-hand and new books that have attracted legendary names from the literary world. Aspiring writers can sleep in the beds tucked away behind shelves in return for helping around the shop and writing a short autobiography for the Shakespeare and Company’s archives. And if you’re hungry after browsing through the collection of books, you can stop by next door, where the bookstore opened a café in 2015.
