A refined timepiece with a vintage heart.

Passionate about watchmaking, Colin de Tonnac founded Semper & Adhuc in 2016. The name means “from always until now” in Latin and perfectly describes the company’s approach to watch manufacturing. That’s because Semper & Adhuc makes timepieces that beat with a vintage heart. Painstakingly restored, vintage movements are given a new life in elegant Semper & Adhuc watches that are as beautiful as they are remarkable. The Instantanée LIP watch is no exception. Celebrating French heritage and craftsmanship, the watch features a vintage movement originally made by LIP 50 years ago: the LIP R100 mechanical movement.

The 37mm stainless steel case boasts a satin finish and a partial exhibition back that offers a glimpse at the inner workings of the timepiece. Engraving on the back pays homage both to LIP and to the city of Besançon’s watchmaking traditions. Inspired by a 1970s LIP chronograph, the double signature dial features gray, white, and pink colors as well as modern, “stick-like” hands. The crown features an engraved logo and can have a right or left position, depending on the owner’s wishes. For the straps, the brand collaborates with a Bordeaux-based leather craftsman, who only uses French leather. Furthermore, the company designs, manufactures, and assembles each watch in France. With the Instantanée LIP, Semper & Adhuc took things further as the timepiece also features a French-designed and made movement, dial, hands, strap, and case.

Finally, the packaging is just as gorgeous and impeccably made as the watch itself. Made of machined cork, the case features a Japanese-style clip with a red string that holds the timepiece in place. The dark green box also boasts golden accents. Inside, users find a manual, a certificate of warranty, and a practical tool they can use to change the strap. The Semper & Adhuc Instantanée LIP watch costs €2,000, which is about $2,400. This particular timepiece is currently sold out, but don’t worry – there are other stunning, vintage-style watches available. Photographs© Semper & Adhuc.
