Spin, Collapsible Stool by Daphne Zuilhof

View all 5 Photos

Space and surface, and consequently object and void, are diametrically opposed pairings that meet at a physical junction in Spin. The collapsible stool designed by Daphne Zuilhof transforms from a bundled length of wood and simple black dodecagon to a sprawling chair with four wooden supports locked in place through the collaboration of over sixty smaller pieces. The part-to-whole relationship is another formal exploration that Zuilhof illustrates through the process of assembly and disassembly of the stool. Where flexibility ends and where stability begins can be tangibly identified through use and interaction with Spin.
