Brussels-based design studio NAB is a place where “spontaneity rigor, and pleasure [take] an important place in the creative process.” This is evident in their latest work, ODO – a simple side table constructed from powder-coated steel and solid ash. Named for the “Odonata” (otherwise known as a dragonfly), the curvilinear structure imitates nature’s design through its elegant form; a beautifully bent steel table top alludes to the insect’s sweeping wing, while angled wooden legs give the seemingly weightless upper a sense of gravity. Just like the migratory dragonfly, ODO weaves seamlessly between interior and exterior, from space to space. Bright red provides a stunning contrast to the pale wood, an accurate reflection of the dragonfly’s brilliant presence in its natural setting. Lizzie Wright is an aspiring artist and designer with a passion for the written word. While she works on her BFA in Industrial Design at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), she spends her (rare) spare time riding around Providence on her trusty Cannondale and drinking lots of coffee. She is especially fascinated by the dichotomy between aesthetic form and function, which has an immense influence on her work. As a lover of the natural world, Lizzie plans to focus on Nature, Culture, and Sustainability Studies to pursue a more efficient future for design. Read more by visiting her website
