The updated version of the elegant Calvino lamp gets a sculptural marble base that amplifies the poetic nature of the design.
Since the 1980s, Italian designer Davide Groppi has been creating elegant lighting for his eponymous company. The brand’s luminaries follow the core concepts of “simplicity, lightness, emotion, invention and amazement”, bringing a sense of wonder and the unmistakable poise and ingenuity of Italian design into private and public spaces. Re-launched with an upgraded design, the Calvino table lamp embodies the company’s ethos perfectly. Sculptural and refined, the lamp combines the strength and dignified beauty of marble with the reflective quality of a mirror and the warmth of light.
Drawing parallels between time, space and light, Calvino is much more than a sophisticated table lamp. It’s a monument and sculpture that brings a narrative dimension to any interior. Each element plays a role in writing the story. Marble stands for the passage of time; the mirror adds a dynamic layer as it reflects and augments points of view in a room; and the light both sculpts and transfigures the setting. While the marble base anchors the object, the circular mirror reflects the surroundings and amplifies the glow of the light to create a cozy mood with a poetic twist. The lamp produces indirect light, making it perfect for spaces that need a touch of mystery and magic.
Launched at Euroluce, a biennial event that takes place during Salone del Mobile in Milan, the Davide Groppi Calvino lamp now comes with a new base in either Verde Alpi marble or travertine. The reflective disc has a mirror finish and is fully adjustable. Other features include a brass stem and a dimmer that allows users to change the intensity of the light.
