Cassini – Nemesis

A blacked-out automatic from Anicorn, inspired by Saturn’s hexagon and engineered for orbit—or everyday wear.

There’s a shape on Saturn that’s hard to explain. At the planet’s north pole, high above the cloud tops, a six-sided jet stream moves in near-perfect symmetry. This hexagon, discovered in the early 1980s and captured in haunting detail by NASA’s Cassini mission, is both a mystery and a marvel—a natural form with artificial precision. That shape, and the atmosphere surrounding it, is the basis for Anicorn’s newest release: Cassini – Nemesis.

The watch takes its name from the spacecraft and the darker side of Saturn’s orbital shadow. When Cassini arrived in 2004, the north pole hadn’t seen sunlight in nearly 15 years. That shadow—its depth, geometry, and silence—informs the design language of this all-black automatic. The case, glass, crown, and second hand all follow a hexagonal profile. There’s movement here, but no flash. The entire body is sandblasted PVD black stainless steel, finished with an anti-fingerprint coating. A Super-LumiNova® glow traces the dial, hands, and markers in blue, pulling directly from the visual data collected during the mission.

Cassini – Nemesis runs on a modified NH35-ATD movement with custom anthracite components, visible through an exhibition caseback. It’s automatic, 24-jewel, with a 41-hour reserve. The rotor and bridge feature a ruthenium gunmetal finish and gold infill, visible through the rear window. Inside and out, the timepiece reflects both mechanical precision and a fascination with celestial scale.

The dial is split into two etched layers, with markings that reference the size and speed of Saturn’s jet stream. The effect isn’t thematic—it’s literal. This isn’t an homage; it’s data rendered as design. You can choose between a sandblasted stainless steel bracelet or an FKM rubber strap. Both use a quick-release system. The bracelet offers weight and texture; the FKM strap is softer, more flexible, and ready for wear in rougher conditions.

At 42mm x 41mm and just under 15mm thick, Cassini – Nemesis sits firmly on the wrist but isn’t bulky. It’s rated to 5ATM and built for regular use, though there’s nothing routine about it. Like the phenomenon it references, the watch invites close study. Look once, you’ll notice the form. Look again, you’ll notice the movement.
