Built into the hillside of Cap-à-l’Aigle, a village of Charlevoix, Canada, the Malbaie V Residence by MU Architecture is a boxy two-story house with a 100% green roof. The verdant feature insulates the home, regulating temperature rise and loss in the summer and the winter. It also adds to the heightened naturalism of the design, symbolically mirroring but visually contrasting with the regionally-sourced red cedar exterior. On the ground floor, there is a covered entrance and carport as well as an open plan living room that offers a full view of the wilderness. Below, four bedrooms and two bathrooms are nested away in greater privacy. Throughout the home, natural wood pairs with black and off-white accents, working in concert to create a rich, sensual atmosphere.
