Designed by Architekten Innauer Matt in Egg, Austria, this family home is quaintly named the “House for Julia and Biórn”. Clad in a wooden lattice shell, the two-story house has a light, airy facade. Inside, large windows bring in sunlight, further brightening the space. The interior is mostly lined with naturally finished wood, and the floors and ceilings are made of local, solid spruce sourced from the neighboring Bregenz Forest. The home’s pale brown brown color palette is broken up by sparing white and black accents, such as the painted plaster divider and the tiled bathroom. Throughout the home, there are built-in shelves and seating, plus lofted areas such as the reading nook loft above the study. Each of these spaces seems at once private and connected to the surrounding landscape. Photography by Adolf Bereuter
