Skate Park House is a residence that caters to the personal interests of its owners who demonstrate two polar interests in music – specifically piano – and skateboarding. LEVEL Architects have incorporated both into the first floor of the Shibuya house in Tokyo so that a skateboarding bowl dips into the floor of the lower level, sharing the space with a grand piano that sits two feet higher on a demi-stage. This shared studio space, lit by a series of track lights that reflect off the polished floor, opens to the outside when the glass panels are pushed aside, blending the industrial interiors with the quiet neighborhood street outside. The second and third floors contain more traditional living spaces, which extend to an outdoor balcony that also serves as a connection to the urban fabric.
