The Herringbone House

View all 14 Photos

Architects Atelier ChanChan built the Herringbone House in an East London infill lot, creating a contemporary yet restrained addition to a neighborhood of Victorian homes. On the outside, the house is distinguished by its small, irregular dimensions, its gable-ended roof, and its stone facade, which zig-zags in a herringbone pattern. Indoors, the neutral palette artfully dampens the modern style, while the interior courtyard and skylights bring sunlight into the space. Unique yet natural and balanced, the Herringbone House expresses character while complementing its street.
