Recisi By Moreno Ratti

Much like the Suspended Collection that provided a powerful commentary on the state of modern-day marble processing, “Recisi” also hides more under the surface. Designed by Moreno Ratti, this collection intrigues by referencing childhood memories in a subtle way. The Italian word “recisi” refers to cut flowers prepared for ornamental vases, but gains a slightly different nuance here. Using water jet technology, the designer cut the marble into precise shapes that remind of the charm of paper cutting games. Ratti reimagined the magic of exploration and discovery of the form – uncovered by cutting bright white paper – in a more sophisticated medium. But the results share the same concept of subtraction, elimination and re-composition.

The separated marble shapes maintain their solidity even in a seemingly fragmented form, yet easily re-combine to form the creative vases. Elegant and distinctive, the objects become works or art as well as functional items. The Recisi collection will be displayed at the furniture and design exhibition organized by Matter of Stuff at the ME Milan – Il Duca Hotel. The exhibition is open 24 hours and runs from 6th April to 10th April. Images courtesy of Moreno Ratti.
